Extent of gorge is about 30 kilometers. It is situated near Semenovka village. It is named so in honor of one of the first researchers of these places – the Russian scientist, geographer who was engaged in studying of Tien-Shan, P.P.Semenov-T ien-Shanskiy (50-s’ – 60-s’ years of a XIX th century). So he has once written in his diary: “From the south all this dark blue pool of Issyk Kul has been closed a continuous chain of snow giants. Tien- Shan seemed an abrupt wall. Snow tops, by which it has been topped, have formed anywhere not interrupting chain and as their snow-white bases, behind range of distance in the southwest, disappeared behind horizon snow tops seemed directly leaving of dark blue waters of lake”.
On a bottom of the gorge flow rough mountain river Ak-Suu with the cleanest glacial water s, and on slopes tower majestic Tien-Shan fur-trees. During the spring and summer period’s pure mountain air is filled by aromas of high-mountainous grasses. The Semyonovsky gorge is one of sights of Kyrgyzstan and enters into number of obligatory excursions for the tourists having a rest on Issyk Kul lake. In the summer here establish yurts where all interested persons can try dishes of the Kyrgyz ethnic cuisine: beshbarmak, koumiss etc. For fans of riding horse walks on gorge will be organized.
